Sections of a Mobile Phone PCB / Motherboard:
A mobile phone or smartphone PCB can be broadly divided into two sections:
- Network Section: Located above the power section, this part of the PCB deals with network-related functions.
- Power Section: Situated below the network section, this area handles power-related functions.
When identifying parts and components on the PCB, it’s helpful to keep these two sections in mind. Let’s explore the key components in each section.
- Antenna Point: The point where the antenna connects to the PCB. Typically found at the top of the PCB.
- Antenna Switch: This component, often made from a mix of metal and non-metal materials, contains 16 points or legs. In some cases, it’s merged with the PFO (Power Frequency Oscillator).
- PFO (Power Frequency Oscillator): Located beside the antenna switch, the PFO generates the power frequency signals.
- Network IC: Positioned near the antenna switch and PFO, the Network IC manages network-related functions. In some mobile phones, it may be integrated with the CPU.
- Power IC: In the power section, look for the IC surrounded by several brown-colored capacitors. Some phones may have two Power ICs.
- CPU (Central Processing Unit): The largest IC in the power section is the CPU. Some devices may have two CPUs.
- Flash IC: This IC is usually found beside the CPU and is responsible for storing data.
- Logic IC: Identified by its 20 legs, the Logic IC handles various logical functions within the device.
- Charging IC: Located in the power section beside R22, the Charging IC manages the device’s charging process.

- UEM (Universal Energy Manager): UEM comprises the Logic IC, Charging IC, Audio IC, and Power IC, collectively managing energy-related tasks.
